Syn. Turbina corymbosa; Ipomoea corymbosa (accepted names)

This vigorous woody vine is native to Latin America, Mexico and Peru. A traditional sacrament of Mexican shaman, this species is used shamanically, medicinally and for divination purposes. The seeds contain ergine (LSA), an ergoline alkaloid similar in structure to LSD. They have similar traditional uses to Argyreia nervosa seeds. It is said the Aztecs used Ololiuqui seeds to communicate with the gods.

A perennial vine that grows to a length of 10m. The stem is slender, woody, branching and twining; the leaves are glossy green and heart shaped. The flowers are white, trumpet shaped and approx. 4cm across and the fruit are soft woody capsules containing one seed.

It prefers rich, moist, well drained soils in a protected, sunny position, and is drought and frost tender.

Common name: Christmas Vine; Christmaspops; Snakeplant
