Mondia spp.

The Mondia genus has only two accepted species names, M. whitei and M. ecornuta. They are perennial herbaceous woody climber belonging to the family Apocynaceae. The rootstock has long been collected for medicinal use in tropical African countries, it has since become rare through over collection of the roots. The large, white, tuberous root is said to have the aroma of vanilla. The seeds within the woody fruit had traditionally been used to make arrow poison.
