Macropiper spp.



The Macropiper genus has only one accepted species, Macropiper latifolium. Native to the South Pacific, Macropiper is an evergreen shrub that can grow to 2m. The swollen nodes are a main characteristic of this species. False Kava or Kavakava-atua, is similar to Kava (Piper methysticum), meaning it may contain kavalactones. It is used for many medicinal purposes by the Polynesians.
