The Cola genus consists of about 100 to 125 species of the chocolate family, Malvaceae. Theybare native in the evergreen lowland and montane forest of continental, primarily tropical, Africa. The Cola species bear fruits enclosing large kola, or cola, nuts containing caffeine, tannin, and theobromine. The dried kola nuts are used in manufacturing the popular soft drink called cola and is grown commercially in various tropical regions around the world.
