Commonly known as Ylang Ylang, the popular perfume fragrance, this tree grows up to 10-20m in height and prefers a well drained soil in a sunny protected position This tropical tree, native to SE Asia is very popular for its extremely fragrant flowers and weeping branches. The green yellow flowers first appear in early autumn, gradually changing to orange over their long flowering season. Warm and humid conditions produce the most fragrance. The essential oil is distilled from the attractive flowers. Its qualities are said to be antiseptic, aphrodisiac and a tonic to the nervous system.
