The Shipibo-Conibo people of the Peruvian Amazon prepare a medicinal tincture from the bark of the tree, which they use to treat rheumatism, and used as a tonic, stimulant, and depurative. It is heard to be sometimes added to ayahuasca. Peruvians believe Bobinsana to be a highly spiritual and healing plant.
Also known as Sirenita de los cantos, Peruvians also believe the Bobinsana plant provides icaros (songs of the plant) or sacred chants, and regular usage improves dream state visions, as well as musical channelling.
Bobinsana is taken in the form of a tincture or decoction / brewed tea. In Peru, the bark of Bobinsana is traditionally prepared as a decoction taken at a dosage of 1 cup, 2 times daily.
To prepare a decoction / tea of Bobinsana, use 2 tsp. of the powdered bark for each cup (250ml) of water. Using medium-high heat, bring water to a boil in an open pot and then add the powder. Reduce the heat to medium-low and place the lid on the pot. Allow the mixture to simmer for 20 minutes. Pour the mixture through a fine strainer and allow it to cool for a time before drinking. Refrigerate unused portions in a well sealed container.
