Rich in tryptamine alkaloids Acacia acuminatas grows as a tall shrub or small tree. In ideal conditions it may grow to a height of ten metres, but in most of its distribution it averages 3-7m.

Endemic to Western Australia, it occurs throughout the south west of the State. It is common in the Wheatbelt, and also extends into the semi-arid interior.

Acacia acuminata is tolerant of drought and frosts and is moderately salt tolerant. They produce golden yellow flowers that are near the ends of the branches, are rod shaped and about 2.5 cm long.

Germination Tips: To increase the germination rate, the seed should be treated first. It can be soaked in hot water or the seed can be nicked or scarred so that water will penetrate the seed's hard coating and induce germination. Use a sandy free draining soil mix and place in a warm area.
