A species of flowering plant in the custard-apple family, Annonaceae, that is native to tropical South America and prefers tropical to sub-tropical climates. It is cultivated for its edible fruits that's flavour is said to resemble lemon meringue pie.

This plant grows up to 4-15m in height with leaves up to 35cm long. It is fast growing and flood-tolerant. Can bear fruit from seed within 3yrs.

The fruit is large, conical or round, green when unripe, ripening to yellow. Its surface is covered with soft spines or protuberances which bruise and blacken with handling, giving it an unappealing appearance.

Common name: Wild Sugar-Apple.
