The sweet potato, the water spinach, morning glory and the moonflower are some of the most famous members of the Ipomoea genus. They consist of funnel-shaped or tubular, colourful or white flowers on twining vines, annuals, or perennials. They are grown as food crops, one of the most important being sweet potato, I. batatas, and others cultivated as ornamental plants for their attractive flowers. Seeds are highly toxic if eaten.
