A tropical plant from South Asia and Southeast Asia, it is an essential ingredient in Asian cooking. It is frost intolerant, it can grow in colder climates but prefers sub-tropical to tropical conditions.

This species has anxiolytic, hypnotic, anticonvulsant, cytoprotective, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Common name: Oil Grass.
