The roots of this native species can be used in cooking similar to the more common Zingiber officinale, and has a milder, more earthy flavour. The centres of young shoots can also be eaten for a mild ginger flavour, and the fruit can be dried and ground for use a spice. Finally, the fresh fruit pulp can be used to activate salivary glands to moisten the mouth when bushwalking.

Dormant in Winter. Can be shipped as a bare-rooted rhizome.
